Some crimes read like bad fiction until you see the cold, hard CCTV footage. A terrified victim leaps from a first-floor window, crashing into a tree before sprinting directly into the path of a passing police car. It sounds like a movie script. But on July 4, 2025, it was real life in Lincolnshire, England.
Five people are now behind bars, serving sentences handed down at Lincoln Crown Court on August 28, after subjecting a man to a horrific, hours-long ordeal that ended in a daring street escape. Inside the Terrifying Ordeal
The nightmare didn't happen in a vacuum. Investigators established that the targeted attack stemmed from ongoing personal tensions linked to a past relationship breakdown. The victim was lured to a property in Market Rasen, where the trap shut tightly behind him.
Once inside, he found himself trapped with five individuals: Brad'Lee Ranyard, Jackson Nicholson, Craig Ranyard, Danielle Thompson, and Nathan Gladwell.
For hours, the captive endured brutal violence, threats, and calculated humiliation. Making matters worse, the group used their mobile phones to film the abuse, laughing as they tormented him. They held him overnight at the Market Rasen address before forcing him into the back of an Isuzu pickup truck.
They drove him along back roads to a secondary property on Portland Street in Lincoln, arriving at around 7:30 AM. The abuse continued, and the captors felt securely in control. They were wrong.
The Desperate Leap for Freedom
At 11:23 AM, the victim spotted a narrow window of opportunity. With his captors distracted or complacent, he bolted toward a first-floor window.
CCTV footage released by Lincolnshire Police shows the man climbing hurriedly out, diving into a nearby tree to break his descent, and scrambling onto the ground. He ran straight into the road.
By incredible coincidence, a marked Lincolnshire Police vehicle driven by PC Kingston turned onto Portland Street at that exact second. The victim didn't hesitate. He rushed toward the cruiser, stepped directly in front of it to force a stop, and yanked open the door to plead for help.
Officers immediately recognized the sheer panic and absolute terror in his voice. They secured him in the back seat and drove him away from the danger zone.
Swift Justice at Lincoln Crown Court
The police didn't waste time. Using vehicle tracking data on the Isuzu pickup, armed officers intercepted Brad'Lee Ranyard and Jackson Nicholson on Washingborough Road just after 12:00 PM that same day. Later that evening, at around 9:40 PM, police raided the Market Rasen address and arrested Nathan Gladwell, Craig Ranyard, and Danielle Thompson.
When the case reached Lincoln Crown Court, the sentences reflected the severity of their actions:
- Brad'Lee Ranyard, 20, received nine years for kidnap and false imprisonment.
- Jackson Nicholson, 25, received nine years for kidnap, false imprisonment, and possessing a bladed article.
- Craig Ranyard, 42, received five years and three months for false imprisonment.
- Danielle Thompson, 38, received four years and nine months for false imprisonment.
- Nathan Gladwell, 36, received three years and seven months for false imprisonment.
All five offenders also received indefinite restraining orders to block any future contact with the victim or his family.
Detective Constable Liam Henderson, who led the investigation, praised the victim's extraordinary bravery. He noted that the man risked everything to escape a group that found sadistic amusement in his suffering.
